BUILDING CONSERVATION
St Stephens, Hampstead, London, 2014 - Torc Cleaning

Continuing our work with St Stephens Restoration and Preservation Trust, LSC was commissioned to carry out cleaning works enhance the existing heavily stained stonework around the building's
main entrance.

LSC decided to use the English Heritage Approved Torc cleaning system, to successfully remove the Heavy Carbon staining that had blackened much of the original stonework. The Torc cleaning system is a very sensitive cleaning method, which combines little water, air and inert organic granulate, often in the form of fine mineral dust (calcite).

The torc system creates a gentle swirling vortex action, which gradually washes the surface of the stone without causing damage through impact or abrasion. The pressure can easily be regulated to ensure a very gentle cleaning process.

The result of the cleaning shows great success in the removal and reduction of staining, whilst at the same time making sure not to have damaged the surfaces by over cleaning.

LSC look forward to be cleaning further aspects of the building in the near future and continuing the works at St Stephens.
