London stone conservation is proud to have worked on a wide range of historic buildings that have required internal and external programmes of repair. Many of the sites we have worked on, such as Moorfields Eye Hospital , HM The Tower of London, the In & Out Club and The City of London Cemetery and Crematorium, needed to stay fully operational while we undertook our work. Our approach is always to ensure a minimum of impact to our client’s day-to-day activities.
We are able to work with you from the outset of a project to advise on approach, methods and materials. Our extensive experience of working on listed buildings and monuments ensures we understand the requirements of planning and heritage officers when initiating and delivering a project. Having agreed our schedule and programme of work, you can expect clear lines of communication with the team delivering the work, with regular updates, progress and completion reports
Ecclesiatic & Monument
Over the years London Stone Conservation has been appointed to work at many ecclesiastical sites across the capital. Our experience encompasses war memorials and monuments as well as places of worship and places of memory and reflection.
These projects are often at locations that are open to the public while we undertake our work. We appreciate that many sites hold a deep and personal connection to those who visit and at all times we strive to minimise our impact on the spirituality of these locations.
We are particularly proud of our work at Highgate Cemetery and St Stephens Hampstead where our repair programmes have reflected just how much these sites are cherished by those who use them, ensuring that they can be enjoyed by generations to come.
Conservation
Having delivered a wide range of conservation projects over the years, we understand the levels of care and attention that this work requires. Our team are formally trained in historic methods of conservation and are able to conserve and protect a wide range of interior and exterior stone structures, sculpture, objects and decorative features.
London Stone Conservation will work with you to agree the most sympathetic and effective programme of work. We are happy to advise on technical aspects, in the form of initial surveys and reports, through to the practical treatment of an object or material and any future recommendations for it's ongoing care and protection.
Carving & Lettercutting
We feel a keen responsibility for maintaining the historical skills of our craft that are so vital for projects of this nature to be a success – both practically and aesthetically.
London Stone Conservation has expert carvers, banker masons and lettercutters who are all trained in hand carving and traditional methods of approach as well as able to utilise more modern tools and materials.
We are able to advise on selection and type of stone, design and installation as well as mould making and producing replacement stone sections and features. Many of our carved inscriptions can be seen across London having produced hand carved inscriptions for Transport for London, the BBC, the NHS and the City of London Corporation. Our crafts-people also enjoy bespoke projects and we would be delighted to talk to you if you are considering a commission.
