The Naval and Military, or In and Out Club, is a distinguished private members’ club in St. James’s Square, Piccadilly. This Grade II listed building*, with architectural contributions from Nicholas Hawksmoor and Giacomo Leoni, underwent comprehensive façade repair, stone conservation, and restoration in 2015, led by London Stone Conservation.

This three-storey town mansion, originally a Barbon townhouse, was remodeled in 1728 following fire damage. Constructed from amber stock bricks with stone dressings, it features a classical Palladian façade. Today, it serves as an exclusive club, initially for British Armed Forces Officers and now open to civilians.

The project included cleaning, stonework conservation, balcony reinforcement, brick replacement, metal railing restoration, leadwork replacement, and redecoration. Layers of paint were stripped from the Ionic entablature, revealing Purbeck marble—a rare material in external architecture. Replacement sections were sourced and treated with breathable microporous paint. Replacement bricks and pointing were soot-washed to preserve the historic carbon-stained aesthetic.
