Grade II listed drinking fountain at Woodgreen high road was erected in 1901 by the Metropolitan Drinking Fountain and Cattle Trough Association. After restoration, the drinking fountain has been taken off the Heritage at Risk Register. 

Dating from 1901, this ornate cattle trough and drinking fountain is designed in a Roman Baroque style. The trough is set on a moulded grey granite base bearing the inscription “Metropolitan Fountain and Cattle Trough Association.” A carved Portland stone fountain head sits on the granite plinth, featuring a pediment, volutes, and a keystone carved with a boar’s head, while the lower section is decorated with grotto-like carvings of vegetation. To one side is a semi-circular drinking bowl in pink granite, above which the date “1901” is inscribed, with a smaller dog trough below; on the other side, a rectangular bowl is positioned above the main cattle trough.

London Stone Conservation was commissioned by HOLT to carry out the conservation of the drinking fountain. Masonry repairs were undertaken, open joints were repointed, cracks were stabilised, and damaged decorative details were locally repaired to address weathering and structural instability, while retaining as much original fabric as possible. Blocked basins and drains were cleared, and drainage was reinstated with new plumbing infrastructure to allow the main drinking bowl to function again on a limited, controlled basis. The surrounding railings were sensitively repositioned to restore safe public access without compromising the historic setting.
