The Mendelssohn sundial is a grade II listed landmark in the historic landscape of Ruskin Park. In spring 2021, London Stone Conservation completed a careful conservation and relocation of the Grade II listed terracotta sundial.

The Heritage of London Trust (HOLT) and Lambeth council commissioned London Stone Conservation to carry out the end to end project. This included careful dismantling, carrying out a full conservation, reassembling, reinstallation.

The sundial was erected in 1910 to commemorate the visit of romantic composer Felix Mendelssohn. (Jakob Ludwig Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, 3 February 1809 – 4 November 1847). Made from terracotta, decorated with Tudor roses around the top and once had a brass topper with an inscription, which was missing, which read ‘Here stood the house where Mendelssohn wrote the Spring Song 1842”.
